Our Story

Hi, my name is Iffat Damji and I adopted a blind, tripod dog who I named Nala on March 30th, 2026. Me and my family adopted Nala 3 months after our dog Milo passed away. We had him for 14 and a half years — he too was a rescue dog — and losing him was the hardest thing ever. Milo helped me so much and it was such a blessing getting to love and care for him and having him love me unconditionally, that I wanted another chance to rescue a dog. That’s when Nala came into my life.

My sister found a post from Free Korean Dogs about a blind, tripod miniature poodle who was going from Korea to Toronto, and something about her just caught my eye. Since I am chronically ill and disabled myself (I have AS, Long Covid, CPTSD and non-epileptic seizures), I wanted to adopt a specially abled pet because I felt like if anyone was going to understand how to care for a disabled pet, it would be me.

How I Came Up With I Love My Specially Abled Pet

The idea came to me when I saw a shirt that says “My shadow has four paws and a tail” — but what about the people with three-legged dogs? Where are our shirts? I see a lot of talk about looking into your dog’s eyes, but what about people with blind dogs?

So I essentially created t-shirts that pet parents can wear in support of their specially abled pets. As a disabled person myself, I understand what it is like to be excluded from society, and so I wanted to make a brand that’s more inclusive — for blind pets, deaf pets, chronically ill dog moms with disabled dogs themselves, and so much more. I tried to make the sizing inclusive as well.
